The largest and most atmospheric flea market in Europe located in the most densely populated area of the Netherlands.<\/p>\r\n

Each market also offers unique home furnishings and clothing products at very low prices. In short, highly recommended for anyone who likes flea markets.<\/p>\r\n

since 1905, <\/span>it\u2019s<\/span> a one-stop-shop for fresh meat, fish, fruit and veg, clothes, jewellery and <\/span>just about everything<\/span> else. It is well worth wandering simply to soak up the atmosphere. If <\/span>you\u2019re<\/span> peckish, do try the roast chicken or herring. S<\/span><\/span>troopwafels<\/span><\/span> will do the trick for those with a sweet tooth.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Make sure to hang out at the intersection between Albert <\/span>Cuypstraat<\/span> and <\/span>Eerste<\/span> van der <\/span>Helststraat<\/span>, <\/span>it\u2019s<\/span> filled with caf\u00e9s, <\/span>bars<\/span> and cool little boutiques.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Originally known as the \u2018Jewish market\u2019 because of its location in the former Jewish district, this site has drawn stallholders since 1885. More than 300 now trade here, focusing on vintage clothes, cheap <\/span>bric<\/span>-\u00e0-<\/span>brac<\/span> and <\/span>secondhand<\/span> goods. Bargains are plentiful \u2013 particularly when it comes to bikes, <\/span>antiques<\/span> and jewellery \u2013 and <\/span>you\u2019ll<\/span> find plenty of locals hanging around <\/span>what\u2019s<\/span> thought to be the biggest and best flea market in Amsterdam<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

A secret covered passage in one of the oldest parts of the city.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Oudemanhuispoort or ‘Old Man’s House Gate’ is a passage near the Faculty of Law of the University of Amsterdam where second-hand textbooks, prints and sheet music are sold.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In earlier days the surrounding buildings and hidden garden of the Oudemanhuispoort were an almshouse for the elderly. Today you can shop in the many stalls that line both sides of the passage, maps, music sheet, prints and poster.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Halfway through the passage is a large door that gives access to a green courtyard, which nowadays belongs to the University of Amsterdam.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
